Michigan Public Benefit Funds for Energy Efficiency

Michigan ’s 2000 restructuring law legislation created the Low-Income Energy and Efficiency (LIEE) fund to provide energy payment assistance and fund energy efficiency programs. Overall, the Commission has allocated approximately 75 percent of the grants to low-income energy assistance programs, about 17 percent to low-income energy efficiency programs and the remainder to the development of energy efficiency programs for all customer classes. For 2010, LIEE funds for low –income energy efficiency totaled $15.9 million. See electric utility restructuring.
