WY Receives $3 Million for Energy AssistanceOn March 23, 2006, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal signed legislation that establishes a state component of the federal low-income energy assistance program. Enrolled Act No. 16 provides $3 million from the general fund to the department of family services for the state energy assistance program. The act states that households with incomes that do not exceed the greater of 215 percent of federal poverty guidelines or 60 percent of state median income are eligible for the funds. The $3 million are available for the remainder of FY 2006 and FY 2007. Under this act the department of family services shall include a request for funds in its 2009-2010 standard budget request to continue funding for the low-income home energy assistance program at the same level.
