New Jersey Energy Efficiency Report Released

Comfort Partners, New Jersey's statewide energy efficiency program for the low income, spent over $13 million in 2002, served nearly 6,000 households and achieved electric and gas savings of 10 to 15 percent.

That's according to the first annual report of the New Jersey Clean Energy Program, released September 24. The program, of which Comfort Partners is a component, provides financial and other incentives to all of the state's energy customers for the installation of energy efficient equipment or renewable energy technologies. It is funded through a societal benefits charge.

Comfort Partners provides improvements to building thermal performance such as sealing and insulation; electric energy efficiency measures such as high performance lighting and energy efficient refrigerators; and addresses health and safety hazards. It also includes a utility bill debt reduction component that helps reduce credit and collection costs, as well as reduce the energy burden of participants. It assisted nearly 4,000 low-income customers during 2002.
