West Virginians to Get Supplemental Benefit

December 5 - West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin has approved a supplemental LIHEAP benefit of $200 to the state’s LIHEAP recipients.  The payments will be made automatically in mid-to-late January to those who received a regular payment earlier in the program, according to the Bureau for Children and Families, which administers the program.

The supplemental benefit results from the near doubling of federal LIHEAP funding granted to the state – a total of $45 million. Eligible households can receive up to $800, compared to the $500 maximum benefit last year.

Nearly 78,000 households received assistance last year; local agencies are reporting significant increases in applications during the program’s open enrollment period of December 1-12.
