Attorney General Mike Beebe Cools Down The Summer For Arkansas Seniors

Attorney General Mike Beebe and his staff are distributing air conditioners and fans to seniors who need help fighting the hot summer temperatures. Working with Arkansas Area Agencies on Aging, Attorney General Beebe is using money from recent settlements with drug companies to get summertime help to qualifying seniors.

Beebe and officials with the Arkansas Area Agencies on Aging will be delivering some of the units in person and overseeing their installation.

The Attorney General's Office will use $27,000 from settlements with Knoll Pharmaceuticals and Pfizer to purchase the air conditioners and fans. Beebe helped install an AC unit at the home of an elderly Hot Springs woman Monday to raise awareness for the program. Installations and presentations are also scheduled in Fort Smith, Pine Bluff, Batesville, Jonesboro and Bentonville, with more distributions to come later.

Seniors must meet medical and financial criteria to receive an air conditioner. Anyone interested in receiving an air conditioner or fan or helping out with the program may call 1-800-432-9721 in Northwest Arkansas, 1-800-382-3205 for the White River AAA, 1-800-467-3278 in East Arkansas, 1-800-264-3260 in Southeast Arkansas, (501) 378-0176 for the Watershed in Central Arkansas, 1-800-467-2170 in West Central Arkansas, 1-800-272-2127 in Southwest Arkansas, 1-800-320-6667 in Western Arkansas, and CareLink at 1-800-482-6359 in Central Arkansas.
