Availability of REACH Funds Announced

The Office of Community Services, Division of Energy Assistance, has announced the availability of funds under the Residential Energy Assistance Challenge Option program (REACH) for 2004. Applications for REACH funds are due on or before August 20, 2004.

REACH funds are available only to LIHEAP state, tribal and territorial grantees; however, states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico must coordinate REACH efforts with a community-based organization (CBO) to assure that REACH services are implemented and operated by these entities. Tribes, tribal organizations, and insular areas, other than Puerto Rico, may administer their programs without sub-contracting or sub-granting to a CBO.

LIHEAP grantees that wish to receive REACH funds must submit a REACH Plan for the funds following the requirements of the LIHEAP statute and the requirements laid out in the 2004 REACH AT.

A total of $6,834,437 will be made available for 2004 REACH, including supplemental grants for energy conservation education activities.

Examples of previous REACH grants, including evaluations, are available at: http://www.ncat.org/liheap/clntself.htm
