Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fund
In 1996, Senate Bill 45 was passed in the legislature providing for a state low-income weatherization program to supplement federal funds by including a voluntary tax check-off option for state income-tax filers. Taxpayers may designate an amount of their refund as a voluntary contribution to the "Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fund" The Department of Economic and Community Affairs will administer the monies, which will help provide weatherization assistance to eligible recipients.

Alabama Power Co.
Customers who are verified as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid for Low Income Families (MLIF) recipients may qualify to receive a monthly base charge discount of approximately $14.50. Customers can apply for the discount at any Alabama Power Company office or contact customer service at 1-800-245-2244.
Alagasco
Customers who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will not be billed a monthly customer charge if eligibility requirements are met. Please call 1-800-292-4008 and a representative will give you instructions on how to apply for this program.

Mobile Gas
Customers who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI payments or Aid to Dependent Children) and who qualify, can have the customer charge of approximately $8 waived from their monthly gas bill. Apply at any of the Mobile Gas offices to receive the waiver.

Project Share
Project SHARE is administered by the American Red Cross and is funded by utility customers who donate through their monthly bills. All
contributions are forwarded to the American Red Cross.
The project operates year round and serves senior citizens, disabled persons, and those on fixed or low incomes. Clients in need apply for Project SHARE assistance at the American Red Cross
office in their county.

Operation Share
A limited area energy program created by the Cullman Power Board and the Cullman Electric Cooperative, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, provides energy assistance to persons in the Cullman Power Board and the Cullman Electric Cooperative service area who are elderly, disabled, or needy. Funding is provided by Cullman Power Board and the Cullman Electric Cooperative service area residents that designate and contribute $1, $2 or $5 each month on their electric bill. Decatur Utilities
Operation Warm
Provides assistance to people who don't qualify for LIHEAP. Community Action bases its decision about who receives Operation Warm funds on income and necessary expenses, such as medications. The program runs from Dec. 1 through May 31, during which applicants are eligible for assistance only once. Contact Community Action Partnership of North Alabama at (256) 552-1400.

A limited area energy program offered through Community Action of North Alabama provides assistance on a one-time basis to persons who are elderly, handicapped, or in health crisis situations. Funding is provided by residents of Morgan and Lawrence counties through donations of $1.00 or more above their monthly electric bills. Whether it's a young family struggling with unemployment or a senior adult living on a meager income, families all over our area can have hope - and heat - through Operation WARM.
